animal sacrifice in ritual

18:14 Jul 03 2013

I am going to touch on a sticky subject even around the Pagan communities and subcultures. That subject is animal sacrifice during ritual. In todays day and age it is still frowned up and there are only a handful of select groups that actively practice animal sacrifice.

Most people associate animal sacrifice with Satanism. That simply is not true. Most Satanisists DO NOT practice animal sacrifice. Some of the groups that DO practice animal sacrifice are Santerians, certain Norse factions, Nova Roma groups and Vodou practitioners. How do I know this? Because I Fall into two of the above groups!!! Which means, YES I do believe and practice animal sacrifice.... Im not posting this to stir up trouble or get flamed. I am writing this to put to rest misconceptions and wrong ideas about the practice.

It may seem hypocritical being an animal rights advocate and practicing animal sacrifice but here is my reasoning. Most people out there are carnivores, which means they eat meat. Animals used during ritual are treated with love, respect and honor. THey are pampered, fed and treated as a sacred tool. They are killed quickly and painlessly while the animals most of us consume are raised in crowded, dirty conditions and slaughtered en mass with no respect or regard for their lives.

Its ironic to me that I get so much flack in the Pagan communities for the practice. I hear people talk about practicing the "Old Ways" and I have to laugh inside. Come on people... do you really think Pagans of old offered up the gods, twinkies and Kool aide? Seriously do your research, for thousands of years, animal sacrifice was an integral part of ritual and worship! If blood wasn't offered up to the Gods the ritual wasn't considered effective.

One may wonder if the animals sacrificed are eaten... well that depends on the ritual. In situations of offerings, cleansings, healings and certain initiations the animal is given directly to the Gods. In other rituals, the animal sacrificed is shared among the people so that all may share of the blessings. It just all depends.

Not everyone who falls into the groups I listed sacrifice animals at random. The actual killing of the animal is the responsibility of a TRAINED and INITIATED person who knows the depth and meaning of what they do and they take that responsibility VERY VERY seriously. This is an intense practice that can be life changing in so many ways and I speak this from experience. The first time I participated touched me on so many levels that I cannot express. Its not for everyone and I DO NOT advocate engaging in this practice unless you are trained and go into it with nothing but spiritual intentions. If you do enter it lightly its not only an insult to the animal, its a slap in the face to the Gods and you will experience negative repercussions for it. This isn't a threat its a warning for anyone that takes it lightly or has no clue of the deeper meaning and practices involved.

Anyhow, I will probably post more on the subject at a later date. I do hope this post doesn't offend to many people but... I know how people think so Im expecting to take a little heat about it so bring it on... I will defend my beliefs.

Interesting journal entry.

I am just wondering. Is there any change in the ritual and/or the outcome of the ritual, if the animal being sacrificed is a male/female/(female that is pregnant)?

Also the animal being sacrificed is honored and allowed to go to whom ever you have given the sacrifice. It is a sign of much respect.

generally female animals that are pregnant are not sacrificed if at all possible. Each of the Gods being honored usually has a specific animal, and/or color of animal that is offered up to them. The same goes for specific rituals. Some might call for a white dove, others might call for a black rooster.. it all depends

Hmmm, Ive been trolling my ass off on profiles and I noticed something that kinda surprised me. Very high ranking members of VR stating straight out on their profiles... "fuck this coven shit".

I guess Im a little confused, I thought a public declaration of that sort earned you a one way ticket to purgatory... I guess it just kinda surprised me because when high ranking members of VR trash the coven system how are low ranking members supposed to respect it and take it with a smile.

when you sign up for VR it states clearly in several places that coven inductions are mandatory. Personally, I don't mind it. Being in a coven gives a person an opportunity to make friends and find their place within VR. But that's just my opinion.... Oh well.... just another enigma for me to ponder as I do my best to find a home on VR!!!

Once someone makes Sire status, they are no longer forced to be in a coven and can just leave the one they are in if they so choose. They may also petition to be in any coven that they want to be in. Some just like to freelance I guess.

It is just like growing up. When you are young you have no choice on your family but once you are an adult you can do what you want.
